My grandma and bubbe hated LeBron James so much in 2010. Oh, and so did I. May those two wonderful women rest in peace. Along with the rest of Cleveland, everyone hated LeBron James after the man made “The Decision” to go to Miami and play for the Heat instead of staying in The Land with the Cavs.
We all knew James was still an incredible basketball player and also a pretty decent guy himself. It was feeling salty about the circumstances in Cleveland basketball that garnered this hatred.
Here in 2024 some 14 or so years later and it appears like all of Cleveland hates a different athlete and this one plays quarterback for the Browns.
I was a big believer in keeping QB Deshaun Watson’s personal life away from his professional life citing that a lot of great players are not great people yet are loved my the many they play for regardless…
Unfortunately for Deshaun, not only is he a pretty bad guy with all of these accusations but also with this 1-4 start a pretty awful quarterback too. Putting all of that together and many are trying to find a way to get him out of Cleveland with this guaranteed enormous contract of his still to be paid.
At least (at the time) LeBron was gone and not sucking on the Cavs. With the circumstances now, we are stuck with Watson and the coach confirmed it:
“We’re not changing quarterbacks,” coach Kevin Stefanski said Sunday after the Browns’ 34-13 loss to the Washington Commanders. “We need to play better. I need to coach better.” Via ESPN
Unless this season drastically changes it’s going to cause a lot of problems within an already-troubled organization that still has to pay a terrible quarterback guaranteed money for years to come.
LeBron was, of course, able to return and win it all for Cleveland in 2016. Redeeming himself in a sense for the departure way back when. Although the giant difference is his playing ability was never in question like this quarterback’s
I often think back to the first game LeBron had in Cleveland as a member of the Heat. James finished with 38 points, leading the Heat to a 118-90 blowout against the Cavs. Again, citing the ability overall that was never lackluster.
Watson appears to have surpassed LeBron as the most hated Cleveland athlete and it really only took the first few weeks of this NFL Season for everyone’s confirmation in the ability sense too.
Bad guy…
Bad Player…
Horrific Contract…
The disaster the Cavs had in 2010 ended up working out. What’s going to go on here with our 2024 Browns and beyond? It remains to be seen…
