Look, I get it.
Everyone wants to leave or is simply stuck somewhere in life. However, this shocking news this morning by Cleveland Browns DE Myles Garrett requesting a trade is insane. Not just because of the news itself but the fact that Garrett publicly requested it and now it’s all over social media and the world with this…
What should’ve been with this whole thing?
Well, Garrett should’ve privately spoken with team officials about his desires instead of going public with this request. They might have and if that were the case and it didn’t go well then I understand a bit more why he made this announcement as he did..
Currently, this is literally almost as big a deal as LeBron James announcing on ESPN that he was “Taking his Talents to South Beach” back in 2010. LeBron, we’re cool. Don’t worry. You’re always welcome back in Cleveland.
Garrett has stabbed this entire franchise in the back because of the way he handled this announcement by going public. The worst part is he’s always been a “Cleveland Guy” going to Cavs games, supporting the city and all of that good stuff we all loved about him in addition to his stellar play on the field itself.
Myles, I get it. The Browns currently suck and this franchise is a joke going 3-14 and finishing last in the NFL North. However, that’s no excuse for the way you went about this.
Garrett, age 29 and heading into his ninth season in the league (first eight with Browns), currently has 102.5 sacks and 352 total tackles for his career. The man was an absolute menace as a member of the defensive line as an end and the opposition certainly feared him.
Now, and this is going to be talked about heading into the Super Bowl and the offseason, are these questions:
Will Garrett actually be traded or can the Browns work it out with him?
Which team is the best fit for him around the league?
What is his value and what would the Browns request in return?
All of this remains to be seen…
***Garrett has two years left on his contract the first for 20 million next season and 25 million in 2026.
The Browns are already in a horrific position and this doesn’t help at all. However, let’s wait and see what the news comes from this in the coming days/weeks/months…
