The Cleveland Browns lost to the New York Giants, 21-15. Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson was sacked eight times and hit 17 times. The Browns’ protection was very lousy. They deserve some of the blame, and so does Watson.
The offensive line was a no-show. The Giants’ defense deserves a lot of credit. They kept blistering Watson throughout the game. This has been a recurring problem for Watson. He’s been getting pressured all season long. The Browns offense needs an identity and it seems that they’re still trying to figure it out.
The Browns’ offensive coordinator has a lot of work to do. The Browns need to go back to the drawing board and come up with a strategy to put their offense in a position to succeed. These next couple of games will test the Browns and it’s not going to get easier. Whatever it is, they need to fix it fast.
Watson deserves some of the blame for his frequent sacks. He needs to release the ball quicker or throw it out of bounds. If this continues, he could be heading to the injured list. A body can take so much toll.
Cleveland had chances to steal the game from the Giants, especially in the fourth quarter, but they didn’t capitalize on them.
The Browns’ defense was solid in the second half, but they were good in the first half. They need to be consistent all game long.
Cleveland will head to Las Vegas to take on the Raiders next Sunday at 4:25 pm EST. Both teams have a 1-2 record and are currently struggling. The Browns are looking to get their second win of the season.
