The Cleveland Cavaliers finished off their pre All-Star break campaign with a 131-108 victory over the Toronto Raptors. The win not only secured that the Cavs would maintain the best record in the Eastern Conference at the break, but it also broke a long-standing franchise record. Cleveland has its best record in franchise history at the All-Star break, sitting at 44-10.

Cavs Break Franchise Record Ahead of All-Star Break
This year’s Cavs team has been one for the history books. The team’s 44-10 record bests the 2009-10 team for best record heading into the All-Star break. Of course, the ’09-10 team featured LeBron James and finished 61-21 before falling to the Boston Celtics in the second round of the playoffs. Additionally, the Cavs’ 2015-16 championship team only amounted to a 38-14 record going into the break.
All-Star Break
It will not be a quiet week in The Bay for the Cavs. Darius Garland, Evan Mobley, and Donovan Mitchell will be representing the team in various events over the weekend. All three of these players are part of Sunday’s All-Star game. On Saturday, Mitchell and Mobley are competing in the All-Star Skills Challenge as one of the four participating teams. Garland is taking part in the three-point contest for the first time in his career. Mitchell participated in the three-point contest in 2024. Moreover, Kenny Atkinson and a member of his coaching staff will man the benches for two of the four All-Star teams.
The Cavs’ sending three All-Stars and two coaches is a testament to the impressive season they have had so far. They are neck and neck with Oklahoma City for the best record in the NBA. They are on pace to crush the 60-win mark by the end of the season while being poised to make a deep playoff run. Cleveland has not made the conference finals without James on their roster since the 1991-92 season, in which the team lost to Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. This year’s Cavs team is the most talented and deep roster Cleveland has seen since the Championship team in 2016. Expectations are sky-high for the Cavs after their record start, but it means nothing if there is no playoff success.
The Cavs are 1-2 against the defending champions, the Boston Celtics, this season despite playing two of those games shorthanded. Additionally, the Cavs are 1-1 against the Thunder, including a 134-114 blowout loss in Oklahoma City. Though it is just the regular season, Cleveland has yet to consistently beat the best of the best. Regardless, the Cavs will go into the playoffs as underdogs to both the Thunder and Celtics, having a chance to shock the NBA world.
The Last Word
44-10 is nothing to bat an eye at. For a team that has seen LeBron James spend 14 seasons in wine and gold, beating his best-ever record would be a truly impressive feat. The Cavs’ addition of De’Andre Hunter appears to be a seamless fit that will pay dividends in the playoffs against players like Jayson Tatum. The Cavs have proven themselves as true contenders this season through 54 games. Overall, it will be exciting to see how far the Cavs can go in the Spring.
