The Cleveland Cavaliers have narrowed their decision for their next head coach to two choices. Kenny Atkinson and James Borrego are the two finalists for the Cavs opening, and the team is said to be closing in on making a choice.
Both Atkinson and Borrego have the support of the front office, and the team hopes to make a decision before the NBA Draft on Wednesday. Borrego was the frontrunner, until the front office met with owner Dan Gilbert. In that meeting, Atkinson drew considerable support.
Both Atkinson and Borrego have been head coaches before. Atkinson coached the Brooklyn Nets from 2016 to 2020 and went 118-190 while in charge. Borrego was the head coach of the Charlotte Hornets from 2018 to 2022. He went 138-163 in Charlotte, and also had a 10-20 stint as the interim head coach of the Orlando Magic in 2015.
