Losing.
It sucks.
However, despite the Cavaliers suffering a 120-117 loss in Boston Tuesday night (Cup Game) and suffering their first loss of the season, maybe this was actually a good thing.
As likely Browns fans as well, if losing were actually a good thing we all would just be Dancing in the Moonlight, right? That’s not entirely the point…
One stat that I love to cite when it comes to winning streaks and how the Cavs were on a continuous one to start the season was the fact that the Golden State Warriors started the 2015-16 season on a 24-game winning streak.
Incredible, isn’t it?
But let’s remember how those Warriors finished the season and crack a smile, pump a fist and scream “THE WARRIORS BLEW A 3-1 LEAD”
Yes, those Warriors that had that amazing start to their year ended up losing to our very Cavaliers in seven games.
My point in all of this?
Maybe losing a game wasn’t such a bad thing?
That it was humbling for a team still destined for greatness. Learning how to take the punches and keep moving forward. After all, it’s never easy and a pending matchup in the Conference Finals is likely between these two teams.
Also, the Cavs came back from down 21 points and nearly battled all the way back. Issac Okoro was out, too. Thus, it’s not like the team didn’t show any effort or heart in this first loss of the season.
Yeah, winning streaks are cool and all. This one especially as it was 15 games to start the season and the first year for head coach Kenny Atkinson.
Think about 2016 though and what NBA fans truly remember. Is it that 24-game winning streak by the Warriors?
Hell, no.
It’s the fact that LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and company found a way to beat the best when it counted most. Now, it’ll be up to our current Cavaliers to take what they learn from the adversity that comes with these types of losses and make the best of it so they are most prepared for when it counts most.
There is a lot of basketball to be played throughout the rest of this regular season. It starts tonight with a home battle against the 4-11 New Orleans Pelicans. It should be the beginning of a winning streak for sure. The Cavs play the Celtics once again on December first in Cleveland at 6pm!
I most recently saw a short story the my Late-Poppa Larry used to tell me all of the time and despite it being about baseball, I felt it was relevant to this article.
What is the point of sharing this start in reference to the Cavs?
It’s a reminder that it’s not always about say a winning streak but the ultimate going of winning the title when it comes that time. And certainly, this team is going to be ready to do so despite taking losses and overcoming the adversaries that come with any NBA season. Simply ready to play basketball, not winning streaks or anything of that nature.
