Well, Deshaun Watson. I gave you two options in a previous article before kickoff Sunday and those were to either silence the haters or ruin your week. Well, you did a great job of certainly picking one and it wasn’t a good one.
Yes, this week is going to be a tough one for Deshaun Watson and the Browns after the team lost 33-17 at home to the Dallas Cowboys in the opener. And it was an ugly one. Like we are talking Sheneneh Jenkins in Martin ugly. Great show, by the way. Suppose you need something to distract you this week after the horrific disappointment.
So truthfully, I didn’t know what to expect in this game. I thought it would at least be competitive, win or lose. However, that score doesn’t even show just how bad it truly was this week.
Watson looked…lost. He went 24/45 for 169 yards, a single touchdown and two interceptions. The amount of missed passes out of bounds, receivers not targeted and missed opportunities overall was incredible.
And here we have former Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield now on the Bucs winning 37-20 with four touchdowns. Typical Browns, Right?
Look, if you are paid a contract worth 230 million dollars the criticism is going to be there. These past few years haven’t been great in Cleveland as Watson has failed to really even stay on the field much.
Honestly, as the team travels to Jacksonville next week to face the Jaguars, the pressure is already ramped up and that’s for sure. It would be fun to blame it all on Watson and that’s what many will do moving forward.
Truthfully, one part of this team that really needs to improve is the offensive line. Give the guy a chance! Yes, Jedrick Wills and Jack Conklin did not play due to injury. Even so, the rest of the bunch was absolutely horrific. That needs to improve no matter who is under center.
If I’m Watson, I simply ignore the haters. It’s going to be a tough week, but you and the rest of the Browns honestly deserve the hate. What can be done is come back Sunday with a vengeance and get everyone back in positive spirits win a big win.
Jacksonville lost week one to the Dolphins by a score of 20-17, so they’ll be feeling the same type of way as the Browns.
Hey, Deshaun. Come this week, prove us wrong. Make all of the losers on X and whatnot stop hating on you. After all, we want to love you but you have to provide us with wins.
So go out there and do it.
