Guardians right-handed ace Tanner Bibee recently signed a five-year contract extension that lasts through the 2029 season with a club option for 2030. The contract guarantees the right-handed ace $48 million.
The contract includes a $2 million dollar signing bonus and breaks down as $3 million dollars this season, $4 million in 2026, $7 million in 2027, $10 million in 2028 and $21 million in 2029. The Guardians’ club option for 2030 is $21 million.
Bibee was drafted by the Cleveland Guardians in 2021 as a fifth-round pick, going 156 overall from California State Fullerton.
During his last season as a Titan, Bibee pitched 89.2 innings and started 14 games. He finished the year with a 7-6 overall record, 3.61 ERA, 67 strikeouts and 21 walks.
Also during his final season, Bibee pitched a complete game shutout against USC where he allowed only three hits on 88 pitches.
Overall, Bibee ended his career as a Titan with a 15-22 record, 3.74 ERA and 244 strikeouts.
Bibee ended his minor league stint with a record of 10-2 over 28 total games. During those appearances, he tallied 186 strikeouts over 148.0 innings pitched and had an ERA of 2.13.
The right-hander made his major league debut on April 26, 2023 against the Colorado Rockies.
During his inaugural start, the 24-year-old rookie struck out eight Rockies and allowed only one run over 5 2/3 innings. Cleveland would win the game 4-1, earning Bibee his first win as a major leaguer.
He took a shutout into the sixth inning of the game before giving up an RBI single to Kris Bryant.
Through his first two seasons with the Guardians, the ace has tallied a 22-12 record overall with a career ERA of 3.25 and 328 strikeouts.
Bibee finished last season with a 12-8 record and a 3.47 ERA. He pitched a total of 173.2 innings and earned 187 strikeouts.
In 2023, the right-hander finished second in the American League Rookie of the Year race behind Baltimore Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson. Henderson joined the Orioles in 2022, just one season before Bibee joined the Guardians.
Bibee will start for the Cleveland Guardians in their season opener against Cole Ragans and the Kansas City Royals in Kansas City on March 27 at 4:10 p.m.
