On Saturday, the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes made a mission statement against Akron: pure dominance on the football field. The Buckeyes demolished Akron 52-7.
How good were the Buckeyes in Week 1 against Akron?
They were imposing. We understand it’s Akron, but to score 52 points against this team to start the season shows how talented this Buckeyes group is.
Quarterback Will Howard
In his first game with the Buckeyes, Howardnwas nothing short of spectacular. If he continues this momentum, Howard will show great potential and can become the next great quarterback to wear a Buckeyes uniform. Howard looked comfortable with this offense on the field. His legs and strength can be problematic for any team’s defense, primarily the secondary. His play-action ability is superb. He was outstanding in the red zone. The offensive line did a good job protecting him. Howard got out of the pocket quickly, which is a plus. He was finding his targets like Emeka Egbuka. With coaches like Ryan Day and Chip Kelly,’ you can become a better version of yourself. Howard transferred to Ohio State from Kansas State. He gave an “A” grade performance on Saturday.
Freshman Receiver Jeremiah Smith
The freshman put on a show in Columbus. It’s starting to feel like he’s home. Smith became the first Ohio State freshman in 26 years to debut with two touchdown receptions. He finished with six catches for 92 yards. Smith was sensational. You couldn’t tell if he was nervous in his first game as a Buckeye. The no. 4 prospect is already starting to live up to the hype. It’s only one game, but first impressions last forever. Howard and Smith can do something special for the Buckeyes in the future.
The Buckeyes will stay home and look to go 2-0 in the season when they face off against the Western Michigan Broncos next Saturday at 7:30 p.m. EST.
