The Browns lost to the New York Giants at home by a score of 21-15. The team is now 1-2 after three games. Yes, I used the F Word because I, like every other Browns fan, should be pissed after this game.
Try not to break anything!
Quickly, many will turn to quarterback Deshaun Watson and blame him for the loss. Oh, he’s a rapist, can’t play quarterback and is terrible for that contract he got.
Today, Watson went 21-37 for 196 yards and two touchdowns. No, he was far from perfect. Yes, he made some bad throws too. But there was so much more to this disaster and those numbers are anything but average.
Watson was sacked eight times in the game due to the putrid offensive line. They are suffering from some injuries and relying on a few backups. Even so, these are NFL Players and that shouldn’t serve as a reason for so, so many sacks. Moreover, Watson even evaded a lot of rushes and actually scampered for 26 yards of his own on some nice runs. The two fumbles he had were caused by the tough hits from Giants linemen.
Look at this stat:
Mistakes were made everywhere and besides the o-line, running back Jerome Ford dropped a handoff for a fumble late in the game and wide receiver Cedric Tillman dropped a pass right in his numbers across the middle as the team attempted to rally late (top photo).
A few weeks back, I wrote an article essentially saying that any quarterback under center for the Browns will have little success with this offensive line being so terrible. Baker Mayfield, Joe Flacco or even current roster members such as Jameis Winston. Whomever it may be…
I could keep it professional and instead of swearing pretend like all is ok with this team that had so much potential to start the season. But, we have to let out our frustrations in some way, right?
Of course, I’m not saying you have to cheer on Watson’s personal life or anything like that this week. Or pretend his playing at an elite level. But to blame the man completely for these outcomes when it was plenty of others that made it worse is not fair at all.
The final score of 21-15 will look to not be as bad as everything really was today. Honestly, the Giants late were doing everything in their own power to try and allow the Browns to win this one. Maybe some nerdy mid-20s Giants fan wrote an article for them about almost blowing a FUCKING lead.
While I joke, next week the Browns head to Las Vegas to play the Raiders. Things better change on all fronts or this is going to be one incredibly long and disappointing season for us all.
