Yes, I’ve probably made that joke before already and yes, I probably already thought I was clever in saying it. However, don’t we all appreciate the classic 90’s sitcom, Martin? Shifting gears to basketball and hasn’t this Cavaliers season been absolutely incredible to start? The team is at a 12-0 record and seems to find a way to win each game whether up a bunch or even down some too.
One player that isn’t always at the forefront of discussion is Ty Jerome. This 6’5, 195-pound shooting guard out of Virginia is 27 years old and in his fifth year with four different teams including the Cavs. Thus, he’s been quite a journeyman here in the league so far.
Jerome is the type of player who comes off the bench and is impactful with his athleticism and hustle that keeps the squad flowing even despite difficult times throughout a game. This year, he is averaging 10.2 points, 2.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists. He is shooting an astounding 60.8% from the floor overall including just over 54% from three.
See, those numbers aren’t mind-blowing by any means but it’s the type of play he generates that makes his such a key asset to this incredible group that is still undefeated. A player he reminds me of is former Cavalier Matthew Dellavedova who was the “hustle-man” for a decade in the league. However, Delly wasn’t much of a scorer back in his day…
In case you were wondering:
Ty Jerome signed a 2-year, $5,000,000 contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers, including $5,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $2,500,000. In 2024-25, Jerome will earn a base salary of $2,560,975, while carrying a cap hit of $2,560,975 and a dead cap value of $2,560,975. – via spotrac.com
Thus, this is a guy who isn’t garnering a huge paycheck for his crucial services that this team is clearly thriving from overall. Plus, he has the ability to put the ball in the hoop if need be despite his hustle-play being at the forefront of his game.
The Cavs look to make it lucky number 13 in a row this Wednesday night in Philadelphia against the 76ers currently at a dreadful 2-7 record. Let’s see what Ty Jerome can do in that game and beyond this season of dreams so far. It’s been so fun to watch him amongst others each night absolutely dominating any opponent they face.
