Cleveland came up short against the New York Yankees as they lost 6-3 in Game 2 of the ALCS. The Yankees took advantage of the Guardians’ defensive errors.
Yankees ace Gerrit Cole entered the game with a 4-0 career lifetime in the postseason against the Guardians. Through four innings pitched, he allowed six runs, two earned runs more, walked four batters and struck out four.
Yankees slugger Aaron Judge reached base after a fielding error by Brayan Rocchio, which allowed Gleyber Torres to score.
Alex Verdugo hits an RBI double to give the Yankees a 2-0 lead in the second inning—Guardians ace Tanner Bibee got taken out of the game.
Bibee allowed three runs in 1 1/3 innings pitched—a lousy outing for the top pitcher of the rotation.
It was bold for Cleveland to walk Juan Soto to load the bases to pitch to Aaron Judge. There is no sign of respect for the Judge, and it’s an embarrassment for the Judge. It shows that he doesn’t fear any pitcher in the postseason.
Guardians had chances in the fourth inning with bases loaded and one out. But they failed to seize the moment. They didn’t score.
The Guardians responded with a two-run fifth to cut their deficit to 3-2. Josh Naylor hit a sacrifice fly to bring in the game’s first run for the Guardians. Will Brennen hit into fielder choice to bring Kyle Manzardo home for the second run.
Judge hit his first home run. Jose Ramirez hit his first hit in the series after a solo home run shot in the 9th inning.
Steven Kwan is extending his postseason hitting streak to 12 games. He’s having a fantastic postseason.
Guardians used eight pitchers in Game 2, combined for four earned runs and seven strikeouts.
Game 3 is Thursday in Cleveland, and it is scheduled for 5:08 p.m. ET. The Guardians are trying to avoid a 0-3 deficit.
