Munch Musings from E. 53rd Street and Hamm Avenue…
Tonight the corner of Ontario and Huron will be rockin’ as the Cleveland Cavaliers host the Orlando Magic 8p tip off at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. What’s at stake? Not just winning game 5 in this best of 7 series, keeping home court but in turn in all probability taking Round 1 in this Eastern Conference match up but PRIDE! Yes indeed, pride for the players, Head Coach, coaching staff and organization plus for the FANS and the CITY! Let’s get this straight…if the team was as hurt, disgusted and upset as most of us were they will handle their business and get the job done tonight!
Ok, story time and this directly relates to all associated with the Wine and Gold for the game tonight! A few years back when I was talking sports on News Radio 610 WTVN in CBus, PD Darryl Parks came up with a great happening to raise money for Secret Santa, which was our pet charity. The week of the ttun game I was going to live on a station billboard located at the Buckeye Hall of Fame Cafe on Olentangy River from 6a Monday until I raised $20,000 for our charity. We were all hoping that this figure was raised by
Friday morning as sister station QFM96: WLVQ-FM 96.3 was having one of their historic “BEAT THE u of M” Breakfast Clubs at the Cafe from 6a-10a. The plan was raise the money then I would join them to get the Buckeye faithful ready for Saturday’s game! The cool thing was Wendy’s contribute a vintage ’65 Mustang that was to be raffled off. $5 a ticket, 5 for $20 so the masses came, and they came! Now my 4′ wide by 20′ long perch was comfy to a point and for legal reasons I was in a harness to keep be from falling off. There was a tent with an all weather heat retaining pad for me to get some shut eye and a cherry picker to get me up and down for a “potty break or 2” and for guests to come up and join me on the air. I was a guest on all the shows and did my show (6p-10p) in its entirety. Quite a few Buckeye players, past and present, stopped by and the guests that made me think of the Cavs and their debacles in Orlando were the great Chris Spielman and of his past Lions teammates, lineman Ken “Diesel” Dallafior. They joined me Wednesday evening so I was already on the billboard for 62 hours. Now Ken was an interesting story. He had been cut, working in a scrap yard and the team called him back. Needless to say he would do anything to block you! Shove his hand under your face mask to rip your nose off your face, mule kick you…you get the picture, so these “tough guys” came on the cherry picker to join #MunchOnSports. After intros Spiels asked me directly “how are you feeling” and THANKS do raising this money for the kids. I answered “I was feeling a little squirrely” and Chris let me have it. He said that he and Diesel were leaving and told me to look in a mirror and know that I just let myself down along with thousands of others. He also added that I WAS NOT WORTHY TO BE HUSBAND TO #DONNASTRONG and Father to my children! It was like getting hit with a bolt of righteousness as felt empowered to not just stay up on the billboard with vim and vigor and to raise $30,000 for Secret Santa! I have never forget this mans message to me and now I know ( see, there was a point to this) that the Cleveland Cavaliers players and coaches need to feel the same way. RIGHT YOUR WRONGS FROM THE LAST TWO GAMES. MAKE IT HAPPEN tonight…#LetEmKnow! Play your game and you win. My gosh, the CAVS are the better team. WIN THIS FREAKING GAME!
