After months of trade rumors, Donovan Mitchell made it official on Tuesday. He’s staying with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Mitchell agreed to a three-year, $150 million contract extension with Cleveland, confirming the news on X/Twitter by using Leonardo DiCaprio’s famous “I’m not leaving!” meme from Wolf of Wall Street.
Cavs fans are understandably excited to have the multi-time All-Star committed to the franchise.
“Spida dropping the Wolf of Wall Street meme is elite!” said Ohio-based writer Brandon Castel.
“Ok. It’s move for the sake of move time. The fanbase won’t settle for patience and running it back, not when the Jimmy situation has deteriorated. Very shaky times for a team that’s enjoyed mostly endless goodwill for basically 20 years,” said a disappointed Heat fan.
“The hopes and dreams of all those teams thinking they could get Spida on their squad dashed. That’s too bad,” another Cavs fan added.
“Day made! Let’s roll @spidadmitchell #LetEmKnow,” said “The Garage Beers” podcast.
“Wish I had time to send this to everyone I argued with that told me he was leaving,” another Cavs fan chimed in.
Mitchell averaged 26.6 points, 5.1 rebounds and 6.1 assists this past season, which was his second with the Cavaliers after being acquired via trade from the Utah Jazz.
However, his playoff run was cut short by injury, as Mitchell missed the final two games of Cleveland’s 4-1 series loss to the eventual champion Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
