Ohio State Buckeyes, the No. 3 ranked team, improved to 2-0 after dismantling Western Michigan 56-0. The defense was astonishing and completed their first shutout since 2019.
What can we say about quarterback Will Howard? He continued to pick up where he left off from Week 1. Howard performed strongly after completing 18 of his 26 passes. He threw for 292 yards to go along with a touchdown. No interceptions.
Six Buckeyes’ made their trip to the end zone. Running back Quinshon Jenkins had nine carries, rushed for 108 yards, and scored two touchdowns. Jeremiah Smith does not look like a freshman on the field. He’s been unbelievable for the Buckeyes so far. The wide receiver finished the game with 119 receiving yards and one touchdown on five receptions. This was a collective team effort.
The Broncos were held to 99 yards. Western Michigan never reached the red zone and went 3-and-out on 10 of 12 possessions, resulting in only six first downs.
The Buckeyes’ coaching staff deserves a lot of credit. They didn’t allow this team to get overconfident about their opponent. Some matchups can be boring for a team that is way better, but the Buckeyes made a statement that blowing a team out is not enough. Shutting out their opponent was good enough for them. The Buckeyes managed to do just that. You always want to have a mindset to dominate your opponent and don’t allow them to have any confidence.
Ohio State’s offensive line took a step forward in this game. They were okay in the first game against Akron but much better against Western Michigan. Their performance was much more productive and cleaner.
The Buckeyes will have the week off for Week 3. On Saturday, September 21st, Marshall will come to Columbus to take on the Buckeyes for Week 4.
