The Ohio State Buckeyes remain dominant against Penn State, winning 20-13 on Saturday. The Buckeyes improve 7-1.
Buckeyes quarterback Will Howard completed 16 of his 24 passes for 182 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Howard dreamed about playing at Penn State, but he never got the chance.
Howard used this game as motivation and gave some payback to the Nittany Lions for never giving him an offer to come play for the program. He took over the last three drives of the game to seal the deal. Howard was excited after he got the first down.
As for Buckeyes coach Ryan Day, this is a fantastic win for his career. Day has struggled to win games against top-five teams. His record is 2-7. Now, he’s hoping to get revenge against the rival Michigan Wolverines, whom he has lost three consecutive games to.
The Buckeyes’ defense showed up big time, especially in the fourth quarter with six minutes left. Penn State had a chance to score to tie the game, but the Nittany Lions pulled a similar Pete Carroll play calling at the goal line.
The Nittany Lions ran the same play by running the ball three times and then decided to throw the ball on fourth down. The Buckeyes’ defense stopped the Nittany Lions from scoring and the momentum was all on the Buckeyes’ side.
In three words, Ohio State defensive end JT Tuimoloau said it best after the game: “Held our ground.”
The Nittany Lions misery against the Buckeyes continue. Coach James Franklin and the team can’t get over the hump. The Nittany Lions have lost eight in a row to the Buckeyes and an 11th straight to AP top-five teams.
Penn State finished the game going 3-for-11 on third-down conversions. The Buckeyes had more first downs (21 to 15) and more total yards (358 to 270).
Ohio State will host against Purdue Boilermakers on Sat, Nov 9th at noon.
