The Cleveland Cavaliers announced that star guard Donovan Mitchell will be resting for tonight’s game against the Charlotte Hornets (5-7). Remember that the Cavs still have a 14-0 record and that winning streak to start the year is a franchise record.
On the campaign, the 28-year-old Mitchell is averaging 24.6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists. This is coming on 46.9% shooting for the season.
This announcement has me a bit puzzled and here are the reasons why:
—
First, obviously this is not say a preseason game where it’s of very little value and counts for the team’s record
Next, the team still has said 14-game streak and if the Cavs were to lose this game all anyone will ever talk about is the “what if” in regards to Spida Mitchell being out and the losing streak ending.
Also, this is a home game and I feel bad for lots of fans that paid good money for tickets and don’t even get to see their star player in action.
Lastly, this isn’t even the first or second of a back-to-back which would make more sense to rest a player on.

Is there more to this story?
Well, probably not and the team may just want Mitchell to have a break. Sometimes we all just need to chill out, watch some Netflix and eat pizza.
Let’s hope there’s not more to the story such as an injury, illness or something. Regardless, let’s see if the Cavs are able to win without Mitchell and continue this fantastic streak that has started what looks to be an amazing season. The team is looking for that 15th win in a row to start the season.
