GOLD! GOLD! GOLD! The Team USA men’s 4×100-meter freestyle relay team captured the Gold medal on Saturday. It was a collective team effort from members Jack Alexy, Chris Guiliano, Hunter Armstrong and Caeleb Dressel. The Team USA Men’s Swimming team posted a 3:09.28 time. It is Team USA’s first gold medal of the 2024 Olympics. Australia took home silver and Italy won bronze.
The Summer Olympics are magical, and swimming is one of the best competitions to watch. Michael Phelps made swimming a must-see TV event during the Olympics. A new group of Team USA Men’s Swimming team members is following his path. On Saturday, Hunter Armstrong was a focal point in this competition. Armstong brought Team USA into first place with his standout third leg and a 47.50 split.
Caeleb Dressel is the leader and veteran of the group. This is his eighth career Olympic gold medal. Although he looked somewhat rusty or sluggish during the competition, he did enough to help bring Team USA a gold medal. It’s a great comeback story for him because he took some time off from swimming for eight months starting in the middle of 2022. Dressel wanted to focus more on his mental health. We have seen Olympians like Michael Phelps and Simone Biles go public about mental health. It’s a serious and sensitive topic. The fact that Dressel was able to get help and focus on himself first and then come back and win a gold medal makes the story inspiring.
Dressel will swim the 100-meter butterfly and the 50-meter freestyle. He’s looking for a much more robust and better performance than the one on Saturday. The Team USA Men’s Swimming group wants to win more gold medals in Paris this summer. They’re off to a great start, so we could see this team dominate the competition.
