Victor Wembanyama is living the dream and is only 20 years old. He finished winning NBA Rookie of the Year and is now playing at the Olympics in his country, France. He’s the talk of the town—a lot of buzz and praise for this young man. France has a future in winning a gold medal, with Victor leading the way. In his first Olympic game, he was impressive. Victor did not disappoint the basketball and Olympic viewers. He’s arguably the best player on this France team and this team is good. France has Nicolas Tatum, Rudy Gobert, Evan Fournier and Victor in that starting lineup. Wemby finished the game with 19 points while shooting 7/13 from the field and 1/4 from the three-point range in 31 minutes. In addition, he had nine boards, four steals and three blocks. France defeated Brazil 78-66 on Saturday.
The future of France is in good hands. The future of the San Antonio Spurs is in good hands. His passion, maturity, and dedication are winning the respect of fans and hall of famers like Dwyane Wade. Wade recently made his broadcasting debut for the Olympics and he’s amazed by what he’s seeing up close. To get high praise from Dwyane Wade is a very big deal. Wemby needs to continue to get better to stay healthy for a long time. He’s one of the best young two-way players in the game. France has a scary frontcourt defensive duo in Gobert and Wembanyama.
Although France is a very talented team in these Olympics, Team USA remains the favorite to win the Gold Medal. It’s challenging to face a team with Lebron James, Kevin Durant, Steph Curry and Joel Embiid. The French won the Silver Medal at the Tokyo Games in 2021. France may or may not win the Gold Medal this year, but we can’t rule out what might happen in 2028 or even 2032. People in France might not want to hear that. So does the France team. Understandably so. We can’t help but call it what we see on paper and TV screens. However, upsets do exist in sports. Anything can happen. Favorites don’t always win it all. It might be improbable for France to win the Gold, but it’s not impossible.
