BOOOOOM!! Five-star 2027 WR Jamier Brown commits to Ohio State

Brian Hartline hauls in another big fish as the Buckeyes keep one of the cycle’s best in-state.

It was a busy weekend for Ohio State football, highlighted by the Buckeyes’ 38-15 win over No. 5 Indiana. Ryan Day’s group answered a lot of questions on Saturday, and they did so in front of a strong showing from the scarlet and gray faithful as well as a compliment of top prospects in attendance. It was absolutely a case of winning both on and off the field, as the dominant victory came along with big news on the recruiting trail.

Before the clock had even run out on the top-five contest in Columbus, the Buckeyes earned the first addition in their 2027 class when five-star wide receiver Jamier Brown announced his commitment to Ohio State.

A native of Dayton, Ohio, Brown currently ranks as the No. 2 wide receiver and the No. 6 overall prospect in the 2027 class per the 247Sports Composite, and sits as the No. 1 wideout in the country by 247Sports’ own rankings. The 5-foot-11 pass-catcher hails out of Wayne High School, and has amassed more than two dozen offers despite being just a sophomore, choosing the Buckeyes over programs like Auburn, Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas A&M and many others.

An elite athlete, Brown’s speed has also translated to the track, where he led all freshman runners in the nation with a 6.75 time in the 60-meter dash. There’s a good reason why the player comparison given by 247Sports national analyst Hudson Standish is Ted Ginn Jr., as his 4.31 40-yard dash time (per MaxPreps) certainly qualifies him for ‘burner’ status much like the former Ohio State speedster.

“Elite speed clearly translates with the ability to take first-level targets to the house, stretch the field vertically, and create explosive plays in the return game. Natural pass catcher who should be able to stack weight on his frame. Still mastering the details of the position as a sophomore, but has shown encouraging flashes working an expanded route tree.”

Brown had attended an Ohio State camp this past June, impressing wide receivers coach Brian Hartline enough to extend him a scholarship offer right then and there. In fact, Brown was the very first player the program offered in the 2027 class overall, and it has quickly paid off with an early committed. While there is still a ways to go before the talented wide receiver will have a chance to sign with the Buckeyes, you have to feel good about Hartline’s abilities both to evaluate and recruit top-of-the-line prospects at the position.

Brown was not in attendance for Ohio State’s victory over Indiana, but there was a surprise guest in Columbus in the form of 2025 five-star offensive tackle David Sanders Jr. The nation’s No. 1 OT and No. 5 overall prospect, per the 247Sports Composite, has been committed to Tennessee since August, but it is clear Justin Frye and the Buckeyes have not stopped recruiting him, having finished as the likely No. 2 team on his list the first time around.

Sanders was on the sidelines for the game on Saturday, but also reportedly spent the weekend on campus, giving Frye and the rest of the staff a bunch of time to try and continue to sell the program to one of the very best players the current cycle has to offer. It couldn’t have hurt matters that Ohio State’s offensive line played exceptionally well against the Hoosiers even without its two best players, and Sanders has to know he would likely start for the Buckeyes next season should he decide to join their class.

It is going to take a herculean effort to flip Sanders away from the Volunteers, but it sounds like everything went incredibly well on this visit, and there was already enough mutual interest from the lineman and his family to make the trip to Columbus in the first place, which seems encouraging. Only time will tell if Ohio State can pull off the ultimate coup before National Signing Day.

• On Sunday, Ohio State was included among the top schools for 2026 four-star offensive lineman Micah Smith. The Vero Beach, Florida native comes in as the No. 6 IOL and No. 81 overall prospect per the 247Sports Composite, and has cut his list down from nearly 30 offers down to just six schools, with the Buckeyes entrenched in that small group alongside Miami, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee and UCLA. Smith is high school teammates with current 2025 Ohio State commit, Tarvos Alford.

• As previously mentioned, the top-five matchup on Saturday provided a great environment for a bunch of recruiting visits. Several of the prospects in attendance left with offers in hand, including 2025 Michigan State commit, Aydan West. The three-star Maryland native ranks as a top-100 cornerback nationally and the No. 36 player out of his home state. Ohio State currently has five defensive backs committed in this cycle, but would clearly like to add at least one more to the mix, with West being a flip target of Tim Walton and Co.

• Elsewhere, Ohio State also extended offers to a pair of 2026 prospects in Joey O’Brien and Keysaun Eleazer. O’Brien, a four-star Pennsylvania native, ranks as the No. 7 ATH and No. 94 player nationally per the 247Sports Composite. Eleazer, who hails out of North Carolina, is a three-star prospect as the No. 31 EDGE and No. 20 player from the Tar Heel State.
