Cardale Jones will always be a beloved figure among Ohio State football fans.
Ten years ago, Jones was a relative unknown when he was pressed into action following J.T. Barrett’s season-ending injury. The strong-armed quarterback wound up leading the Buckeyes to the Big Ten title and first national championship of the College Football Playoff era.
Jones’ playing days are now over, but he’s still a presence on social media, where he frequently offers up his opinions on OSU football.
On Wednesday, the former Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Chargers signal caller expressed his appreciation for Buckeye fans on X/Twitter.
“I haven’t played a snap at Ohio State in 9 years and was apart of a national championship team 10 years ago. The continued love & support I receive in Ohio/Buckeye Nation, you’ll think I’m still behind center. From the bottom of my heart, I appreciate it!” Jones wrote.
After leaving OSU, Jones had stints in the NFL, XFL, CFL and National Arena League.
In Columbus, he’ll always be best remembered for his three-game run to close out the 2014 season.
Against Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship Game and then Alabama and Oregon in the College Football Playoff, Jones threw for 742 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions while adding 90 rushing yards and a touchdown as the Buckeyes earned the conference and national championships.
