The 2024 college football season marks a new era of sports broadcasting as many of the top schools in the country now call different networks homes. CBS was lucky enough to land Ohio State’s season opener against Akron after years of Buckeyes football on Fox.
But while the CBS college football theme music is pretty iconic, fans were a bit mixed on hearing it for the Buckeyes rather than SEC programs like Alabama, LSU, Georgia and Florida.
Fans on social media have been debating whether it’s good or bad but for the most part the consensus has been clear: It just doesn’t feel right.
“SEC on ABC and Big ten on CBS has my brain in a pretzel,” one user remarked.
“CBS using the SEC theme for the Big Ten feels sacrilegious,” wrote another.
“I don’t like hearing the CBS theme over Big Ten football…” a third said bluntly.
Some have gone so far as to declare that CBS dropped the ball by letting the SEC go elsewhere in the first place.
But when money talks, conferences walk and the past couple of years have seen the money trump “tradition” in every way, shape and form.
It may be hard to get used to now, but over time, it will become normal for football fans.
