This morning has been chock full of Deion Sanders rumors.
After UNC fired head coach Mack Brown, some floated Sanders as a possible replacement, if he wants to leave Colorado. Now, there’s an insider prediction for Sanders to land a high-profile recruit who had been committed to a major program.
On3’s Steve Wiltfong logged a prediction for Sanders and the Buffaloes to land a commitment from Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy four-star EDGE London Merritt, who earlier today announced he was decommitting from Ohio State.
“This was not an easy decision, as I have immense respect for Coach Johnson, Coach Day and the coaching staff,” Merritt said. “I want to express my sincere gratitude for the time, support and belief you have shown me throughout the recruiting process. The Ohio State University is an outstanding institution, and I will always appreciate the opportunity to have been such a part of a prestigious institution.”
Merritt is the No. 13 EDGE and 24th-ranked player in Florida in the 2025 recruiting class. Nationally, he’s the No. 144 prospect.
“Heavy-handed defender that looks like a natural fit as a power end in a 3-4 or a 4-3, but could ultimately settle in as a full-time 3-technique at the next level,” said 247Sports’ Andrew Ivins. “Transferred into IMG Academy in advance of senior season and posted impressive testing times at the powerhouse’s annual Pro Day. More notably, check in at roughly 6-foot-2.5, 250 pounds. Projects as a multi-year starter at the Power Four level. Must improve anchor technique and keep progressing as a rusher, but has plenty of developmental upside.”
On the field this season, Sanders has Colorado sitting at 8-3 heading into the regular season finale against 3-8 Oklahoma State on Friday. The Buffaloes were in the running for the Big Ten title before being upset by Kansas last weekend.
“We started smelling ourselves a little bit. We got intoxicated with the success,” Sanders said postgame.
