Ohio State head coach Ryan Day got away with one during Saturday’s game against Nebraska.
The Buckeyes were protecting a 21-17 lead late in the fourth quarter when linebacker Arvell Reese was called for targeting on Cornhuskers wide receiver Jahmal Banks. The play then went to replay review before it was upheld.
It caused Day to throw his headset in anger before yelling at the officiating crew. Rules analyst Mike Pereira thinks the officials missed an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Day.
“He catches a break here. You can’t be out on the field and do this,” Pereira said.

Despite Day getting upset at the call, it didn’t matter when time expired because the Buckeyes held on for a 21-17 win over the Cornhuskers.
They picked Cornhuskers quarterback Dylan Raiola off later in the drive to seal the win and get to 6-1 heading into next Saturday’s showdown against the Penn State Nittany Lions in Happy Valley.
The Buckeyes are still very much alive for both the Big Ten title and a spot in the College Football Playoff but they have to win out after losing to the Oregon Ducks two weeks ago.
Kickoff for next Saturday’s showdown in State College will be at Noon ET.
