Franklin and Day both struggle in big games, and now they meet as top-five teams. Someone has to win this game.
Welcome to a new episode of Land-Grant Podcast Network’s I-80 Football Show. On this show, we travel down I-80 to talk all things Big Ten Football. After every week of action, we will catch you up on all the conference’s games and look ahead at the matchups, storylines, and players you should be paying attention to for the next week. My name is Jordan Williams, and I am joined by my co-host Dante Morgan.
In this episode of the I-80 Football Show, Jordan tries his best to focus on the podcast while the Yankees actively blow game five of the World Series.
The show begins with the guys trying to determine what leads students to pay over $55,000 a year in tuition just to skip class. In the traffic update, we’re once again stuffed with little news outside of Michigan quarterback Jack Tuttle retiring from college football in his seventh season after his fifth concussion.
While recapping the previous week’s slate, Jordan tries his best to not derail the show with his disappointment in Ryan Day, but it doesn’t work. Jordan believes that Day has proven after six years that he is not the man for the job. His flaws are all over this team including his decision to not bolster the offensive line in the transfer portal after struggling to recruit along the offensive line for the past three or four recruiting cycles.
Now a week after almost losing to Nebraska, the Buckeyes have to go to State College and face James Franklin and Penn State. Franklin loves to lose big games, especially against Ohio State, as he has only one career win against the Buckeyes. In a game of a moveable object vs. a stoppable force, someone has to win this game. So which coach wants to lose more?
In their MapQuest segment, there are no Friday night or after-dark games in the Big Ten this week, so the focus is the weekend starts at noon with Ohio State vs. Penn State — the second most important game of the season in the conference.
At 3:30 p.m. we have Oregon looking to continue their dominance against a disappointing Michigan program. In the primetime slot, we have USC-Washington. The loser of this game is most likely not going to make a bowl game, but especially USC if they lose, as they have to face Notre Dame and Nebraska in two of their final three games and would need to win one of the two to make avoid a 5-7 season.
In their weekly pitstop, Jordan is frustrated with the Colts’ decision to bench Anthony Richardson, and with his entire sports fandom as a whole as the Buckeyes, Colts, and Yankees are all disappointing in different ways after being wildly successful when he was a kid.
