JD Vance has a huge fall ahead of him as Donald Trump’s running mate. That being said, he carved out enough time in his busy schedule to briefly talk about Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes.
During an interview with Shelby Talcott, the senator of Ohio was asked about Day’s job security. Vance gave the exact response you’d expect from a politician.
“Holy [expletive], she asked me if they should ditch Ryan Day if they lose for the fourth year in a row [to Michigan],” Vance said. “Look, I have to give a diplomatic answer here: Look, Ohio State fans, I’m certainly among them — we have been spoiled by the last 15 years of the OSU/Michigan rivalry, and I think that I really want us to win, and I’ll be really pissed off as a fourth year in a row, but that’s all I’ll say.”
Day might not be on the hot seat yet, but make no mistake about it, there’ll be a ton of pressure on him this upcoming season. If he suffers another loss to Michigan, the fan base in Columbus will lose its mind, especially since Jim Harbaugh is no longer coaching the Wolverines.
The good news for Day is that he’ll have more than enough talent to field a national title contender this fall. The bad news, however, is that Ohio State is so loaded with firepower that anything less than a championship will be considered a failure.
Ohio State will kick off its 2024 season on Aug. 31 against Akron. The Buckeyes won’t really be tested until the start of conference play.
