Marvin Harrison, Jr. is college football’s version of “The Terminator”. He’s a dominant force, a juggernaut, the best player we’ve seen at the college level in years. He was knocked out of the game by a Georgia defensive back in last season’s playoff, but it was only a temporary setback. MHJ is back and he’s just getting warmed up.
Harrison, Jr. had an incredible season in 2022 for the Ohio State Buckeyes, hauling in 77 passes for 1,263 yards and 14 touchdowns from quarterback C.J. Stroud. He eclipsed 100 receiving yards in seven games, including big games against conference foes Penn State (185) and Michigan (120). Harrison, Jr. put together arguably the best regular season of any Ohio State receiver in history (to be debated in another article).
Against the Georgia Bulldogs in the College Football Playoff semifinal, MHJ caught 5 passes for 106 yards and 2 touchdowns through roughly three quarters before getting concussed on what would have/should have been a 3rd touchdown reception. With Harrison, Jr. out of the game, Ohio State relinquished a 2-touchdown advantage in the fourth quarter and lost the game on a last-second missed field goal.
Had MHJ been in the game, Ohio State would have maintained the lead and rolled to a semifinal win. It isn’t hard to predict the outcome of the National Championship game if the Buckeyes had unleashed Marvin Harrison, Jr. on TCU, a weaker team that somehow defeated Michigan in the other semifinal.
It’s 2023 and Marvin Harrison, Jr. is back and better than ever. He’s stronger, faster, more deceptive, and has a freak physique. He’s playing with determination and a vengeance. After not playing much against Indiana, Harrison, Jr. has racked up 12 catches for 286 yards and three touchdowns in the last two games, making it look easy. His Heisman-like talent is on full display.
It’s not to say the Notre Dame defense should be afraid, but if they’re a little jittery at the prospect of stopping Harrison, Jr. in the open field, it’s understandable. He isn’t the only player to focus on, Ohio State has great talent at every skilled offensive position. It will be interesting to see what type of defensive scheme Notre Dame comes up with to try and slow down the Buckeyes next week. Good luck!
