Despite being 56-8 overall as a head coach with only three losses in the Big Ten, Ohio State head coach Ryan Day appears to be on the hot seat heading into 2024. Former Alabama head coach Nick Saban has some thoughts on that.
Appearing on the Pat McAfee Show this week, the seven-time national champion was asked how he feels about Day’s job potentially being on the line if they lose even a single game this season. Saban wasn’t a big fan of that, pointing out that he hates to see expectations on any coach that high.
As for his predictions for Day and his message for Day’s critics, Saban said that he believes Day is “a really good coach” and expects good things from the roster. He also pointed out that Day should get a ton of credit if the team lives up to expectations.
“I personally think Ryan Day is a really good coach & I think he’ll do a really good job with his roster..
If he has the best roster who do you think got them there..
The fans should appreciate the fact that they have one of the best teams in the country”

“I personally think Ryan Day is a really good coach and I think he’ll do a really good job with his roster…” Saban said.
“If he has the best roster – who got the roster there? That counts for something. That means something.
“The fans should appreciate the fact that they have one of the best teams in the country and they do their part to cheer the guy on in a positive way and create a lot of positive energy for the players.”
While that’s certainly a nice mentality to have, the Buckeyes aren’t exactly iconic for their patience. The bar for success has been raised for a while now and if Day stumbles for any reason over the next three months, there’s a good chance that patience will run out.
