It’s only Week 0, but Ohio State fans are already fed up with former Michigan star Desmond Howard.
On Friday morning, Howard appeared on “Get Up” to talk about the 2024 college football season. During his brief segment, he was asked if Ohio State head coach Ryan Day is on the hot seat.
Howard firmly believes Day is on the hot seat. In fact, he thinks Day could end up being replaced by his new offensive coordinator, Chip Kelly.
“Some fans will say, ‘Well if we got rid of Ryan Day, who will we hire?’ They went out and hired Chip Kelly as the offensive coordinator,” Howard said. “So if things go awry, I think they have somebody who’s behind Chip Kelly — I mean behind Brian Day, I mean Ryan Day — Chip Kelly, where they can say, ‘Chip Kelly can be the next coach too.’ So I think that Ryan Day, he’s on the hot seat right now.”
Immediately after Howard fired off this take on national television, Ohio State fans rushed to Twitter to call him out for showing bias against the Buckeyes.
“Death, Taxes and unprofessional biased Desmond Howard,” one fan tweeted.
Another fan said, “Out of all the people ESPN has fired, how does he still have a job?”
“I don’t think Day is on the hot seat,” an Ohio State fan added. “And I think it would be disastrous if we fired Day. It will put the program back if you ask me.”
At this point, Ohio State fans should expect Howard to diss their school any chance he gets. We’re talking about one of the most popular Michigan players of all time.
If Ohio State really wants to silence Howard, it’ll need to defeat Michigan later this season.
Ohio State and Michigan will square off on Nov. 30 in Columbus.
