Ohio State altered its 2025 football schedule.
On Monday, the school announced that the Buckeyes will no longer face UConn on Oct. 18. Ohio State said the two programs “mutually” agreed to cancel the non-conference matchup.
In place of that game, Ohio State will instead host Grambling State on Sept. 6. The Buckeyes will open the 2025 season against Texas on Aug. 30 and play Ohio on Sept. 13.
Ohio State had never opposed UConn before booking the 2025 contest. It’s unclear why they called off the game against the independent football program, which went 3-9 in Jim Mora’s second season as head coach.
The Buckeyes will instead face Grambling State for the first time. The prestigious HBCU program has won 26 SWAC titles and 15 Blach college football national championships.
Grambling State went 5-6 last season, including a 72-10 loss to LSU in Week 2.
Ohio State noted that Grambling State will mark the Big Ten school’s fifth FCS matchup. The Buckeyes earned a 35-7 win over Youngstown State in their third meeting last September.
Ohio State has lined up Texas, Ball State, and Kent as its 2026 non-conference opponents. The university lined up a huge home-and-home series against Alabama in 2027 and 2028.
As for the 2024 calendar, Ryan Day’s squad opens the season against Akron, Western Michigan, and Marshall. Ohio State enters the season as a top championship contender following a busy offseason on the recruiting trail and transfer portal.
