Carson Beck is moving on from Georgia, but he’s not going to the NFL just yet. On Thursday, the football world learned that he’s entering the transfer portal.
Beck has been at Georgia since 2021. He’ll leave the Bulldogs with 7,912 career passing yards, 58 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. In just the 2024 season alone, he threw for 3,485 yards and 28 touchdowns. Unfortunately, his season was cut short due to a torn UCL. Dr. Neal ElAttrache performed surgery on the quarterback’s injury. As of right now, he’s expected to resume throwing in the spring.
Even though Beck isn’t at 100 percent right now, several marquee schools are expected to show interest in him.
Pete Nakos of On3 is reporting that Ohio State, Texas Tech and Miami are three teams to watch in the sweepstakes for Beck. ESPN’s Pete Thamel, however, said Miami “looms as the favorite.” That makes sense since Beck’s girlfriend, Hanna Cavinder, plays for the school’s basketball team.
Ohio State would probably be the most interesting landing spot for Beck. The program will have plenty of offensive talent on next year’s roster, headlined by star wideout Jeremiah Smith. What the Buckeyes will need is a proven quarterback to replace Will Howard.
If Ohio State lands a commitment from Beck, there’ll be plenty of analysts picking the Buckeyes to get back to the College Football Playoff semifinals,
Beck is expected to listen to all potential suitors this offseason, per Thamel’s report. A source told him, “It’s a strategic thing, not an emotional thing.”
The current expectation is that Beck will miss spring practice regardless of where he transfers to this offseason. The good news, however, is that he’ll be ready for summer camp.
There’s certainly a scenario in play where Beck improves his draft stock and becomes a first-round prospect in 2026. But first, he’ll have to choose his next team.
