COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State has made a change to next season’s football schedule, as the Buckeyes will now open the 2024 season at home against the University of Akron on Aug. 31. Ohio State was previously scheduled to play Southern Mississippi on that date.
Ohio State and Southern Mississippi mutually agreed to cancel the game in order to modify their respective schedules.
This game will be the 10th all-time meeting between Ohio State and Akron with the most recent game occurring in 2021. The Buckeyes are now scheduled to play one non-conference game against an Ohio school for each of the next four seasons: vs. Akron (2024), Ohio (2025), Kent State (2026) and Bowling Green (2027).
