Now that their championship season is over, Ohio State can enjoy the win while focusing on next year’s roster.
There’s still going to be plenty of movement around the country in the transfer portal over the next few months. Ohio State will be an active part of the transfer market, both taking in new talent and also losing some pieces to opportunities elsewhere.
Earlier this month, it was reported that Buckeyes offensive lineman George Fitzpatrick would be entering the portal after the College Football Playoff.
On Tuesday morning, the Englewood, Colorado native officially hopped in, according to 247Sports’ Chris Hummer and Matt Zenitz.
“Ohio State redshirt sophomore OT George Fitzpatrick has officially entered the transfer portal, @mzenitz and I have learned for @247Sports,” Hummer tweeted. “He’s the top available offensive lineman in the @247SportsPortal rankings. He’ll be repped by @cjrecruiting2 for his portal process.”
The 6-foot-6, 313-pound Fitzpatrick appeared in one game in 2022 and three in 2023 before becoming a key reserve for Ohio State this season. He played in 15 of 16 games for the Buckeyes, including Monday night’s national championship win over Notre Dame.
“It was definitely a hard decision. I like it here a lot, but at the end of the day, I’m trying to do what’s best for me,” Fitzpatrick told Eleven Warriors recently of his decision to transfer. “I want to finish out and help the team win.”
Fitzpatrick was able to do just that. At his next stop, he will have two years of eligibility remaining and likely a better opportunity for increased playing time, which he said played a major role in his decision.
Coming out of Englewood (Colo.) Cherry Creek High School, Fitzpatrick was the No. 2 player in the state and No. 19 offensive tackle in the 2022 class, according to 247Sports’ Composite Rankings.
He was also the 244th-rated prospect nationally.
