Ohio State is college football’s new national champion after beating Notre Dame 34-23 in Atlanta Monday night.
While Ohio State fans will be savoring this win for a while, one of the Buckeyes’ incoming 2025 recruits is already looking forward to next season. Five-star cornerback Devin Sanchez is the second highest-rated recruit in Ohio State’s 2025 haul and the top-rated defensive prospect of the bunch. The Houston (Tex.) North Shore product was at Mercedes-Benz Stadium last night watching his future team win the College Football Playoff.
On Tuesday, Sanchez’s mind shifted to the 2025 season, when he is expected to have an immediate impact on the OSU defense.
“Now it’s my time the page has turned,” Sanchez tweeted.
The top cornerback and No. 7 overall recruit in the 2025 cycle, according to 247Sports’ Composite Rankings, Sanchez “owns a rare combination of frame length, fluidity, and sudden athleticism,” writes 247Sports’ analyst Gabe Brooks.
Brooks likened Sanchez to New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez, who was a first-round pick in 2023.
“Possesses outstanding physical and athletic traits in an era that prioritizes height and length at corner,” Brooks wrote. “One of the nation’s top 2025 prospects, regardless of position, who projects as a high-major impact player and long-term high-round NFL Draft candidate.”
At Ohio State, he’ll become part of a program that is expected to lose plenty of talent to the 2025 NFL Draft but is already earning predictions for becoming back-to-back national champions.
“Michigan won last year, Ohio State won this year and I’d put big money that Ohio State is going to repeat next year,” FS1’s Colin Cowherd said Tuesday. “Texas will be good but Texas wasn’t even part of the SEC a year ago. Remember all the SEC fans? ‘Oh, Texas?’ They are now your life preserver in the NIL. They got big-boy money. Texas, in fact, may have more money than anybody except Phil Knight and Oregon. This year, it changed. We have a new king of college football. It’s the Big Ten.”
