Ohio State set to host a major transfer portal target this weekend

A former Georgia five-star is set to visit Ohio State this coming weekend.

It’s time! The College Football Playoff semifinals are finally here after more than a week’s wait. The Buckeyes have been on another level the past two games, and will look to keep that momentum rolling tonight with a chance to clinch a spot in the national championship.

The majority of the staff’s attention of course is focused on the game, but this week has been fairly busy off the field too with recruiting efforts, and following tonight’s game, Ohio State will play host to one of the more important transfer portal targets left on the board.

Buckeyes set to host Georgia transfer this weekend

When former Georgia defensive end target Damon Wilson entered the transfer portal earlier this week, Ohio State was immediately linked to the highly touted athlete. Receiving multiple predictions in their favor to land Wilson shortly after he announced his intent to leave his current team, the Buckeyes seem for many like the easy place for Wilson to land, and it makes sense as to why.

Finishing just behind Georgia in his recruitment out of high school, the transfer portal gives a whole new importance to at least being a runner up. Now a chance to finally add him to their roster, Ohio State will look to close the deal with Wilson, and that chance starts soon as news came public on Thursday that Wilson would be taking a visit to Columbus this weekend.

A 6-foot-4, 250 pound athlete, Wilson would bring immediate game-changing depth to an Ohio State defensive line that would love nothing more than to add elite level players with the seniors that will leave with this season’s conclusion. Additionally, hearing plenty of buzz about Jim Knowles using more of a three-down front next season, Wilson fits that mold right away, furthering the connection between the two parties.

Maybe the most interesting aspect to this visit, the dead period starts this coming Monday as well, so the timing shouldn’t be ignored. The No. 5 player nationally and the second best edge rusher in the current 247Sports transfer portal rankings, Ohio State has a real shot at making this weekend one to remember, and the outcome versus Texas isn’t the only reason as to why.

Checking in on from the All-American Bowl

It’s nothing new to see Ohio State commits shining at the All-American Bowl festivities, and this year is no different. Some of the top players regardless of position in the country are headed to Columbus, and seeing them on display is exciting to see what will be the next wave of great talent.

Both on offense and defense, the Buckeyes are being well represented. So far, it’s been receiver Quincy Porter who might just be turning the most heads with his level of play.

A player that sort of flew under the radar for the bulk of his commitment, it was late in the game that Ohio State had to fend off the other suitors, and thankfully they did just that. Yet another nod to Brian Hartline’s evaluations, Porter has been all over the field showing exactly why the Buckeyes were so high on his skills.

A 6-foot-3, 200 pound receiver, Porter has the long and lengthy frame to be a real problem for defenses on the outside, and he’s showing that this week in practice. The No. 53 player nationally and ninth best receiver in the 2025 class per the 247Sports Composite, Hartline has another weapon soon to arrive and that’s scary when you think of the current position room including guys like Jeremiah Smith, Carnell Tate, and Brandon Inniss all set to come back next season.

• Georgia QB Carson Beck is set to enter the transfer portal. While that’s news in and of itself, the real news here is that some outlets reported the Buckeyes to be one of the players for his next destination.

While Beck has built an impressive resume, this past year has not been all that illustrious, and it would be a real shock to see Ohio State get in the mix here with the current state of their quarterback room.
