The hits just keep on coming for the Ohio State Buckeyes. If losing to the Michigan Wolverines at home wasn’t bad enough, they just learned that one of their top offensive players is going pro.
Ohio State offensive tackle Josh Simmons has declared for the draft, according to ESPN insider Adam Schefter. It’s important to note that his 2024 season was cut short due to a knee injury he suffered against Oregon. That being said, Simmons’ agent said he’s ahead of schedule with his rehab. If true, that should help him maintain his draft stock as he inches closer to the NFL Draft.
“Josh will be fully cleared for practice by the start of NFL training camp and he will be a high-first round pick,” NFL agent Drew Rosenhaus said.
Simmons started his college career at San Diego State before transferring to Ohio State. Despite facing tougher competition on a weekly basis, his play didn’t drop at all. In fact, he didn’t give up a single sack prior to undergoing season-ending surgery.
ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. had Simmons as his 25th ranked prospect before his injury. If he’s healthy, there’s no reason to believe he’ll slip out of the top 25.
As long as the medicals clear for Simmons, he should make an NFL team very happy in April.
Simmons isn’t the only Ohio State player expected to be a top-tier prospect in the upcoming draft. Wide receiver Emeka Egbuka, defensive lineman Tyleik Williams and edge rusher J.T. Tuimoloau are all intriguing players with high upside. They might wait until after the College Football Playoff to say farewell to the Buckeyes.
