When you think of Ohio State, your first thought might be about how talented its football team is. While that may be true, student-athletes for the Buckeyes aren’t just in Columbus to dominate their opponents on the gridiron.
Ohio State is one of two Division I football teams to land a perfect multi-year academic progress rate score. The other school just so happens to be Harvard.
On Tuesday, Ohio State held its “Faces of Resilience” event. The school’s football coach, Ryan Day, talked about his team’s perfect academic progress rate.
“It speaks to the maturity of our team. It’s cool to go to class. It’s cool to get your degree. It’s cool to do well in school,” Day said, via Eleven Warriors. “It speaks to the type of guys we have and the work that they’ve done. It speaks to our assistant coaches and how much they’re involved with it. But also SASSO (Student-Athlete Support Services Office), which does an unbelievable job. Deanna Ruggeri and her entire staff do a great job providing our guys with the resources they need through tutors. But ultimately, it goes back to the guys. They are the ones who have to do that. I am very proud of the work they’re doing.”
Dr. John Davidson, a representative for Ohio State’s faculty athletics, also commented on the football team’s perfect score of 1,000.
Johnson said Ohio State’s academic progress rate score reflects “the attention paid to success in school not just by students and academic counselors but by coaches in their recruiting and their mentoring.”
Congratulations to Ohio State and Harvard on this noteworthy achievement.
