Oregon topped Ohio State in thrilling fashion at Autzen Stadium in Eugene on Saturday night, as fans rushed the field in celebration following the final play, but wide receiver Traeshon Holden wasn’t able to witness it.
Holden, a standout wide receiver for the Ducks, was ejected in the first half of Saturday evening’s game. He was ejected for a personal misconduct penalty, as he spat on a Ohio State defensive back. Holden got caught spitting on Buckeyes defender Davison Igbinosun and was promptly ejected from the game.
On Sunday, he took to social media to apologize.
“I want to sincerely apologize for my actions during our recent game,” he wrote. “My actions were not only disrespectful but also a betrayal of the values of sportsmanship, integrity and respect that I strive to embody as a student-athlete. …To Ohio State, I offer my sincerest apologies for my behavior. It was completely unacceptable and a momentary lapse in judgment. I want to emphasize that this incident does not reflect who I am as a person or the values I aim to uphold.”
Holden’s incident happened in the second quarter, when he and Igbinosun got tangled up in the end zone.
Good for him for apologizing for his actions. Oregon, 6-0 on the year, moved up to No. 2 in the polls following the big win against Ohio State.
