The Women’s March Madness is in full force as we’re halfway through the Elite Eight. Jordan and DJ break discuss the final four, plus big news in college football.
Welcome to a new episode of Land-Grant Podcast Network’s Power Two Podcast. On this show, we talk about Big Ten and SEC football…and everyone else. This show is for the die-hard fans and the casual college football fans. My name is Jordan Williams, and I am joined by my co-host DaNaysia Jones. Lock in as we run a power sweep through the college football landscape.
We’re in full swing of spring practice, which means there is not much news as teams are grinding to prepare for the 2025 season. One piece of news that dropped was Colorado giving Deion Sanders a five-year, $54 million contract, making him one of the top five highest-paid coaches in college football.
In other Colorado news, the NCAA has denied the school’s petition to hold joint spring practice with Syracuse. Their response made it seem like the answer was more ‘not this year’ versus never, so it will be interesting to see if it gets approved in the near future for another season. Lastly, we finally know why the FBI was looking into former Michigan coach Matt Weiss, and it is more disgusting than we originally thought.
March Madness is in full swing. We’re still not watching men’s college basketball, but we have a lot of thoughts on the women’s basketball tournament, including if the Super Regional format is bad for women’s basketball. The simple answer is yes, because if it was a good idea they would’ve also used that format for the men’s March Madness, but that is not the case.
This conversation sparks thoughts regarding the continued boom of women’s sports, the NIL value of female athletes versus male athletes and the best way to market the sport going forward — including changing the super regional format before the contract is up and it’s too late.
Since the tournament will be over before our next episode drops, we have to get into our Final Four and championship previews. It’s boring, but our picks are chalk: South Carolina and UCLA have already punched their ticket to the Final Four, and we both have UConn beating USC without Juju Watkins and Hailey Van Lith and TCU beating Texas in their all-Texas Elite Eight matchups.
In the final four, we have South Carolina and UConn winning their matchups en route to playing each other in the National Championship, with Paige Bueckers leading UConn to a title before she heads to the the WNBA.
In their two-minute warning, DJ talks about Abbott Elementary and recommends anyone who hasn’t watched it to check it out. Jordan complains about the state NBA media is in as Stephen A. Smith is still on a rampage because LeBron James took issue with him questioning him as a father.
