Ohio State’s loss to Michigan Saturday cost the Buckeyes a berth in the Big Ten Championship Game.
However, at 10-2 with wins over Indiana and Penn State, Ohio State is still projected to make the College Football Playoff. Where the Buckeyes will be seeded is anyone’s guess. There’s another round of rankings coming out Tuesday, with the final 12-team bracket being unveiled next Sunday after the conference title games.
If Ohio State is seeded anywhere from 5th-through-8th, the Buckeyes would still host a first round home game at Ohio Stadium, which doesn’t sit right with Peter Burns.
Burns, a longtime SEC Network and ESPN broadcaster, aired out his feelings on OSU on X/Twitter Sunday morning.
“If you lose at home to a 21 point underdog, there is NO WAY IN EVER LIVING HELL should you host a CFB Playoff game with 2 losses. Ohio State does NOT deserve a 1st round home game,” Burns said.
Many will roll their eyes at Burns’ take, given his affinity for the SEC. He’s probably not alone in his opinion though.
The loss on Saturday was the fourth in a row for Ohio State against the Wolverines, their longest losing streak in the rivalry since 1988-91. Winning a national championship might be the only thing Ryan Day can do to get angry Buckeye fans off his back.
“Everybody wants to win this game in the worst way, and nobody wants to win it more than we do. It’s our No. 1 goal every year,” Day said postgame.
“And so when you don’t do that, there’s disappointment and frustration. And so, I don’t blame anybody for being upset. I’m upset more than anybody. And those players are, too, and the coaches and everybody that goes at it. We know what we’re getting ourselves into here.”
As a result of Ohio State’s loss, Penn State is now headed to the Big Ten Championship Game against Oregon on Saturday.
