We’re about three hours away from Ohio State and Notre Dame meeting for the national championship in Atlanta.
At the end of November, it seemed tough to imagine the Buckeyes being in this position. Ohio State closed out the regular season with an embarrassing home loss to rival Michigan, which ended the team’s chances at winning the Big Ten. The Buckeyes’ spot in the College Football Playoff was safe, but now they had no chance at a first-round bye and many were wondering if it was the end for head coach Ryan Day.
Fast forward to now and Ohio State reached the title game with impressive victories over Tennessee, Oregon and Texas. Tonight, they’ll look to make it four in a row and capture the program’s first national championship in 10 years with a win over the Fighting Irish.
Cali Mitchey will be in the building supporting the Buckeyes. A Sylvania, Ohio native and member of the OSU cheerleading squad, Mitchey talked some trash on Instagram Monday afternoon.
“mood because we heard that the Irish are out of luck 🍀 🤭,” she captioned a post of herself and a teammate sitting on the sideline at the Cotton Bowl.
“I’m giggling at the first pic,” one of Mitchey’s teammates said.
“Caption is fire👏👏👏,” another friend commented.
“Caption is 10/10,” a third person wrote.
“Perf,” a fourth person commented.
“ohhh mother 🙇♀️🙇♀️,” chimed in a fifth.
Mitchey, who has over 3,000 followers on Instagram, frequently posts glimpses into her personal life as well as her time on the cheerleading team.
Ohio State enters tonight’s game as the decided favorites by more than a touchdown. Most of the experts are riding with the Buckeyes.
“I cannot imagine Notre Dame winning the game,” ESPN’s Paul Finebaum said on “The Matt Barrie Show” last week. “Something tells me I’ll probably hear that statement again Tuesday if I’m wrong. I just can’t. I know it’s cliche to say, ‘Matt, Notre Dame is really good. And I see it coming down to a late —’ I don’t see it. To me, this looks like the first couple of games by Ohio State.”
Notre Dame and Ohio State will kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
