Former Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Kyle McCord made his Syracuse Orange football debut on Saturday. It was a good one.
McCord, a former five-star recruit, transferred out of the Ohio State Buckeyes football program following a disappointing 2023 season. The Buckeyes lost to Michigan for the third straight year and missed the College Football Playoff.
Ohio State landed Kansas State transfer quarterback Will Howard. McCoy, meanwhile, transferred to Syracuse.
On Saturday, he threw for 354 yards, four touchdowns and one interception in a 38-22 win over Ohio.
Following the game, Syracuse’s head coach, Fran Brown, taunted Ryan Day about letting McCord leave.
“I should send Ryan Day a bottle of champagne for allowing us to get Kyle McCord,” Syracuse’s head coach told reporters following his team’s Week 1 win.

Ohio State probably isn’t regretting the decision, but it’s good for McCord and Syracuse to have a nice start to the 2024 season, too.
The Buckeyes played well with Will Howard under center on Saturday, blowing out Akron. Perhaps it’ll work out for everyone. Sometimes, you just need a fresh start elsewhere.
McCord had a tough time at Ohio State in 2023 and the Buckeyes surely feel good about Howard under center in 2024.
