Ohio State completed a dominant postseason run on Monday night, beating Notre Dame 34-23 in the College Football Playoff National Championship.
After losing to Michigan in the regular season finale on Nov. 30, many thought Ohio State was done. Instead, the Buckeyes responded with four consecutive wins over Tennessee, Oregon, Texas and Notre Dame, all by two scores or more. The four-game stretch set the standard that future champions of the 12-team CFP will have to live up to.
“I think in that moment that kind of gave us a little spark,” Ohio State running back Quinshon Judkins said about the loss to Michigan. “Like, definitely, I would say it made us want to go harder, man, and realize, OK, like that was super disrespectful. I think it made a lot of guys wake up in that moment.”
On Wednesday, Ohio State celebrated its title with a tweet declaring “the Greatest run in CFB history complete.”

There’s no doubt that the Buckeyes’ four-game run was impressive, and might have been the best four-game stretch in college football history.
However, people can’t agree on that making it the greatest overall run the sport has ever seen.
“The loss to Michigan makes this debatable. There is no denying the playoff run but I don’t know if you can call it the greatest ever with a loss to 7-5 Michigan,” one person said.
“2020 Alabama had to play an all sec schedule but nice try,” someone else said.
“No one has done what Ohio State just did. Period. #GoBucks,” one OSU fan said.
“[Whether] people want to believe we deserved to be in the playoffs or not, you can’t deny this was the best playoff run ever!! The teams we had to go through was wild!!” someone else chimed in.
“The WHAT?” a doubter asked.
You can feel however you want about Ohio State’s claim here, but you have to call the Buckeyes champs, which is all the program and its fans really care about.
In terms of debating the weight of their accomplishment, that’s what makes being a sports fan fun.
Do you think Ohio State just had the greatest run ever?
