Three ranked teams, a track & field record-breaker, and batting averages through the roof all have us screaming “O-H” at the top of our lungs.
It can be hard to think of anything else during the madness that is March, and while you should absolutely watch the No. 4-seed Ohio State’s women’s basketball team as they kick off their NCAA Tournament run, the fun doesn’t stop for Buckeye sports when basketball season ends.
Here are the Top Five things getting us excited for Buckeye spring sports.
1. No. 20 women’s lacrosse is off to its best start in school history
Buckeye women’s lacrosse topped the program’s previous best start to a season, 6-0, with their 8-0 start to this year. The team just finished out the non-conference portion of their season with a road win over San Diego State, 22-8, after shutting the Aztecs out in the fourth quarter.
OSU looked dominant in its last two outings, beating Oregon 20-6 in the first half of its West Coast road trip. Now, it looks to maintain that momentum heading into back-to-back ranked matchups.
Up first, they’ll welcome No. 21 USC at noon ET on Sunday, March 23, the first game in a tough homestand that could set the tone for conference play. On Thursday, March 27, at 6 p.m. ET, they’ll welcome No. 11 Michigan in a rivalry game. Keep an eye on these games, as they could set the tone for the Buckeyes heading into the heart of the season.
2. No. 4 men’s tennis started the season 3-0 in the Big Ten
With 18 straight Big Ten titles, Ohio State men’s tennis has built a dominant program, so it’s not much of a surprise that they’ve started the season with a 14-2 overall record, opening 3-0 in conference play. But true Buckeye fans know we never get sick of winning, so we’re once again letting you know that it’s time to tune into men’s tennis if you haven’t yet.
The Buckeyes most recently got it done on the road at Washington, 4-1, last Sunday after cleaning up against Oregon a few days prior, 4-0. Up next for the team, they’ll welcome Wisconsin to Columbus this Friday, March 21, at 6 p.m. ET, followed by Wisconsin at noon ET Sunday.
Among many players to watch, keep an eye on #74 Jack Anthrop who just claimed his 100th career win for the Buckeyes (78 singles, 22 doubles) in a singles matchup against Washington’s Soham Purohit.

3. Leah Bertrand keeps breaking records for Ohio State track & field
The outdoor track and field season begins this weekend, and the Buckeyes will kick things off at the USF Invite in Tampa, Florida, on Friday, March 21 and Saturday, March 22. No matter what your favorite track and field event is, the Buckeyes are sure to keep you entertained this season.
In particular, I’m gearing up to resume my status as “internet cheerleader for Leah Bertrand.” Bertrand, a senior, finished the 2024 outdoor season as Big Ten Champion in both the 100m and 4x100m relay, garnering her Outdoor USTFCCCA All-American First Team honors in 100m and Second Team in the 4x100m relay. She finished top-10 in the NCAA Championship finals in the 100m (7th).
If this year’s indoor success is any indication, she’s not slowing down. Bertrand just wrapped the 2025 NCAA Indoor Championships, where she competed in the women’s 60m semifinal. Also competing for the Buckeyes was freshman Edidiong Udo, who competed in the men’s 400m semifinals.
Leading up to the NCAA Indoor Championships, Bertrand was coming off an extremely successful Indoor Big Tens, in which she beat her own 60m program record, finishing third with a time of 7.19 (beating her previous program-leading time of 7.20).
4. No. 16 men’s volleyball has swept each of their last four matches, 3-0
The 11-8 men’s volleyball team is coming off four consecutive sweeps — two on the road against New Jersey Institute of Technology and two at home in Columbus against Queens University of Charlotte — and five straight victories as they head into the final month or so of regular season play.
Tune in as they head to Chicago to face Loyola University at 8 p.m. ET this Thursday, and then face Lewis on the road at 6 p.m. ET Saturday to see if they can extend their streak.
5. Ohio State softball is ranked in the top five in the nation in slugging percentage

Let’s be honest, softball is more fun when the bats are hot, and the Buckeyes (21-6-1) are not disappointing in their first season under head coach Kirin Kumar, who was named Ohio State’s head coach after running the program at Miami of Ohio.
Ohio State’s offense has homered in 21 consecutive games, and as of Monday, they ranked third in the country in slugging percentage, home runs, and home runs per game. They lead the Big Ten in slugging percentage and are second in home runs, with 58, just four behind leader Nebraska.
This is in large part thanks to Jasmyn Burns, who has the second-best batting average in the Big Ten (0.512). Her 41 hits are the fifth-best in the conference. Tune in to Wednesday’s home game against Youngstown State at 4 p.m. ET to see if they can keep the hits coming.
