COLUMBUS, Ohio – When the National Football League playoffs get underway tomorrow afternoon, there will be a lot of Ohio State football representation. The Buckeyes have at least one former player on all 14 teams in the postseason. A total of 22 former Buckeyes are on active playoff rosters with an additional three on injured reserve.
The first game of this year’s playoffs will feature four Buckeyes on the Cleveland Browns as they travel to face C.J. Stroud, Noah Brown, Cam Johnston and the upstart Houston Texans. Stroud, the favorite to win NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors, led his team to an AFC South division title and is closing in on 4,200 yards passing for the season.
The four Ohio State alums on the Browns – and five if you include OL Dawand Jones, who is on injured reserve – are the most of any playoff team. They are: SAF Ronnie Hickman, CB Denzel Ward, OL Luke Wypler and SAF Tanner McCalister.
Two of Sunday’s wildcard games will each feature four Buckeyes playing. When Dallas takes on Green Bay, the Cowboys will have Jonathan Hankins, Malik Hooker and Billy Price suit up while the Packers counter with offensive linemen Michael Jordan and Josh Myers. The LA Rams-Detroit Lions game features Jordan Fuller (Rams), Talyor Decker (Lions), Jonah Jackson (Lions) and Jake McQuaide (Lions).
To close wild card weekend, the Philadelphia-Tampa Bay game on Monday night will include Eagles CB Bradley Roby.
The two teams that have byes this weekend – the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens – have a total of four Buckeyes: DL Chase Young (49ers), DL Nick Bosa (49ers), LB Malik Harrison (Ravens) and RB JK Dobbins (Ravens – injured reserve).
