The final play of the Ohio State-Oregon game is still fresh in quarterback Will Howard’s mind.
Ohio State had the ball at Oregon’s 38-yard line and needed a quick play to get into field goal range since there were only six seconds left on the clock. Howard dropped back to pass and wasted precious time before deciding to scramble.
He went down with no time left and Ohio State wasn’t able to call a timeout to get its field goal unit on the field.
Howard still regrets not going down a bit sooner since he thought he had an extra second to spare.
“I thought I was down with one second,” Howard said to Chase Brown. “It’s tough, but we always talk about leaving no doubt, so I probably should have gotten down even quicker so we didn’t leave any doubt there.”
It’s a learning moment for Howard even though it gave the Buckeyes their first loss of the 2024 season.
Even though they lost, they’re still in great shape heading into the second half of their season. If they win out, they’ll have a chance to play for the Big Ten title and a national title.
Their next game will be this Saturday against the 5-2 Nebraska Cornhuskers. Kickoff will be at Noon ET.
