New writer joins Covering the Corner
Hello everyone! I’m Zachary Martin, the newest contributor here at Covering the Corner. I’m excited to be joining a great group of writers to help cover the Cleveland Guardians.
I’ve grown up as a Guardians fan since I was born back in the early 1990s as a kid from Ravenna, OH. My dad was a writer covering the Cleveland teams back when the ball club was at the old Municipal Stadium.
My first love of Cleveland sports has as always been the baseball team from the Indians to the now Guardians. I was a huge Casey Blake fan and it shifted over time to Francisco Lindor to now it being Shane Bieber & Steve Kwan.
I remember being at the game where Ryan Rayburn hit is walk-off homer run in the bleachers. I even remember being in Texas to see Lonnie Chisenhall go off for a nine RBI game against the Rangers. I moved to where I am now in South Carolina in 2016 when, of course, the team went to the World Series.
I don’t remember much of the ‘95 & ‘97 series’ since I was 6 for the second one. But the 2016 run was amazing and I felt the heartbreak at home watching them lose after the Rajai Davis tying homer.
Now I write for The Hockey Writers as a credentialed beat writer covering the Carolina Hurricanes and host the Locked On Hurricanes podcast along with The SurgeCast. I love covering my favorite hockey team but now to add covering the Guardians is truly an honor. I cannot thank Quincy, CTC, & Vox for this opportunity.
I will be starting out with two recaps a week on Wednesdays and Fridays, and I’m looking forward to help bring my style to CTC to cover the Guards.
The goal is to get better here with this crew and hope to see my role grow over time. I cannot wait for the season to start and talk baseball – maybe even some hockey – with all of you.
Let’s have a fun 2025 Season and Let’s Go Guardians!
