Cleveland Guardians minor league recap for Wednesday, April 2, 2025
Columbus Clippers 0, St. Paul Saints 5
Box Score · Clippers fall to 2-2
It’s tough to win when you don’t score any runs, but that was what happened Tuesday when the Clippers squared off against top Twins pitching prospect Zebby Matthews.
Matthews mowed down the Columbus lineup, tossing 5.0 one-hit shutout innings with four strikeouts and zero walks.
The lone player to reach base safely twice was Kyle Datres, who went 2-for-3 with a double. Angel Martinez also doubled.
On the pitching side of the equation, it wasn’t a great 2025 debut for Will Dion. Dion failed to get out of the first inning, allowing two runs (zero earned) on one hit and a walk and throwing 33 pitches in the process.
Mason Hickman struggled in relief, walking three and allowing three hits with three strikeouts in 1.2 innings while allowing a pair of runs.
The good news was Andrew Walters made his 2025 debut with a perfect inning and a pair of strikeouts. Andrew Misiaszek, Jack Leftwich and Nick Mikolajchak combined for an additional 4.0 scoreless innings of relief.
