News and Notes for Monday, January 6th, 2025
The NFL regular season wrapped up yesterday and eapparently MLB executives were all watching because there isn’t really any baseball news.
FanGraphs is releasing ZiPS projections, three per week. Today is the Milwaukee Brewers. There are now 10 teams left, one of whom is the Guardians. So, it’s the point of the offseason where I’m eagerly anticipating Dan Szymborski tweeting out that projection preview for Cleveland. That’s where I am, folks.
Baseball America released a survey of MLB scouts about the current state of scouting in the game. The Guardians were chosen by those scouts as the worst in valuing traditional scouting. Doesn’t seem like a corner they should cut given their reliance on finding and developing cheap talent, in my humble opinion.
Check out DelGua’s excellent fan post of his Guardians’ prospect rankings. DelGua does such an amazing job with this every year and his information and scouting of Cleveland’s system is top notch.
Keenej also gave us his thoughts on C.C. Sabathia as a Hall of Famer, which was well-worth the time in my opinion.
Happy Three Kings day, to all who celebrate. I vote Jose Ramirez, Emmanuel Clase and Steven Kwan as our three kings, with Tanner Bibee running a very close fourth.
