News and Notes for Thursday, January 23rd, 2025
The Cleveland Guardians have DFA’d fan beloved innings eater, Pedro Avila to make room on the 40-man roster for free agent reliever Paul Sewald. Quincy summarized the roster changes in this article.
Like Quincy I, too, am weeping over Avila being DFA’d. Not only did he capture my heart with his goofy antics in the post season and proved to be another great clubhouse guy, but he was shown to be a good major league reliever. I had hoped to see him thrive in the 2025 season and had hoped that if he was moved it would have been for some value. Hopefully Avila can make it through waivers, but I’m not holding my breath.
Sewald will join one of the best bullpens in baseball. A bullpen that continues, well into the offseason, to be highlighted in their dominance.
